A New York Yippie! on the Locked Ward
That is the title of my book--it is the only account of the hippies/Yippies that does not mention a single rock band! This is because music is very incidental to the everyday lives of most people--who George W. Bush listens to is not very relevant to his decisions--and the rock bands were in the world of money, and lots of it, whereas the hippies were anti-money--an impractical philosophy, for sure. Therefore moneyed rockers play no part in my narrative. Later, after my days as a Yippie!, I would become very familiar with locked wards--a couple of hundred of them. Somehow, my memories of the State Hospital are perfectly intact, whereas my memories of the county ward are all blurred together--I cannot explain that---I wrote down 26 of them but all i can remember is one incident in each--and there were far more than 26. After a while, it hurt me more than helping me--it is always painful to be yanked out of your life and set to another life on the ward--I never had ECT or anything like that, but I took a whole bunch of psych drugs, which got better and better with the development of newer drugs. Anyhow, I dont do that any more--better living through chemistry.
